What's happening at The Box Youth Project

Project Gambia 2013 - coming very soon. View recent updates on our Facebook page

Gambia 2012 - In Dec 2011, a group of volunteers from the Box Youth Project travelled out to Gambia to volunteer with children, young people and families in the Gunjur region. They were fortunate to meet a group of teachers who on a voluntary basis set up an organisation called AFNOW which provides support for almost 300 orphans in the locality. We are returning again in 2012.

Junior Youth Work - The past two years has witnessed the introduction of work with 8-12 year olds at The Box Youth Project. We currently run three afterschool sessions each week offering children opportunities to participate in a wide range of activities that have included outdoor play, cookery, arts and crafts, circle games, drama and music.

Generic Youth Work - As the contract holder for the delivery of youth work provision for 13-19 year olds in the Doxford and St Chad’s wards, The Box Youth Project has oered a wide variety of opportunities.

Holiday Activities - kayaking games, bushcraft, Derwent Hill and much more outdoor adventures.

16+ Programme - The Box Youth Project has an enviable track record for supporting young people who have left school to engage in training, education or employment. Youth Workers contact young people who are known to be NEET and aim to engage them in our Post 16 Programmes. We work with young people for 3 afternoons /week to identify the barriers that are preventing them from getting a job, returning to education or securing a place on a training programme. Individuals are provided with one to one support to encourage them to explore options available to them.

Young Volunteers - Volunteering has always formed the backbone of 4202 volunteer hours. The Box Youth Project, however over the past year the programme of work has taken on a new dimension! In 2012, 28 young people aged 17-21 have been involved in our Young Volunteers Project, and have developed new skills and increased confidence whilst making a dierence within their own community.

We recognise that our future success as a neighbourhood based youth organisation is measured not only by the quality of the services we provide to children and young people but is also largely dependent upon the support we receive from the local community and our partner organisations. Their input is vital in ensuring we can continue to provide the best possible services for children and young people within our community.

We will continue to consult with young people, parents and the local community to ensure that our programmes of work are responsive to local needs.
