Junior Youth Work - The past two years has witnessed the
introduction of work with 8-12 year olds
at The Box Youth Project. We currently
run three afterschool sessions each week
offering children opportunities to
participate in a wide range of activities
that have included outdoor play,
cookery, arts and crafts, circle games,
drama and music.
Discussions within sessions have
touched upon topics that are important
to children making the transition from
primary to secondary school. Examples
of discussions/projects that have taken
place are internet safety, cyber bullying,
stranger danger, bullying, smoking.
With funding from Awards 4 All, and
sunderland children have had
opportunities to participate in outings to
a variety of places that have included
Edinburgh Zoo, Beamish Museum, The
Life Centre, The Sealife Centre,
Adventureland, and the Forbidden
Corner during school holiday periods.
Groups have also visited farms, theme
parks, beaches, parks and other local
places of interest.
At Easter this year ten 8-10 year olds
climbed the equivalent height of Mount
Everest at Penshaw Monument, raising£240 for Project Gambia.
During the summer term nine children
have worked together to produce a
short piece of drama about
bullying…check this out on our website!
